Privacy policy

Last updated: March 2026

Echo is a private memory app. We built it to help you preserve moments that matter — not to collect your data or show you ads. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how you stay in control.

The short version: Your memories are yours. We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't share your content with anyone except the people you invite to your Chapters.

What we collect

Information you provide:

  • Account information: Your email address and display name when you create an account, or information you share when signing in with Apple.
  • Memories: The text, photos, and dates you add when creating memories.
  • Song references: When you attach a song, we store a reference (title, artist) — not the audio file.
  • Chapters: Chapter names and member lists for shared memory spaces.

Information collected automatically:

  • Device information: Device type, OS version, and app version for troubleshooting.
  • Usage data: Anonymized data about how you use the app to help us improve it.
  • Crash reports: Diagnostic information when something goes wrong.

What we don't collect:

  • Your location (unless you add it to a memory)
  • Your contacts or address book
  • Your music library or listening history
  • Photos beyond what you add to memories

How we use your information

  • To provide Echo's features — storing and displaying your memories
  • To send memory nudges and notifications you've enabled
  • To process subscription payments
  • To improve the app and fix bugs
  • To respond to support requests

We don't use your information to show ads or build advertising profiles.

How we share your information

We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

With people you choose: When you share a memory to a Chapter, members of that Chapter can see it. You control who's in your Chapters.

With service providers: We use trusted third parties for cloud storage, payment processing (RevenueCat), analytics, and crash reporting. They're bound to protect your data and can't use it for their own purposes.

When required by law: We may disclose information if required by valid legal process.

How we protect your information

  • All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted
  • Your data is stored securely with restricted access
  • We regularly review our security practices

Your choices

You have control over your data:

  • Access: View your memories and account information anytime
  • Edit: Update or correct your information
  • Delete: Remove individual memories or delete your entire account
  • Export: Request a copy of your data
  • Notifications: Control which notifications you receive

To delete your account, go to Settings in the app. Your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

Data retention

We keep your data as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your memories and personal data are permanently deleted within 30 days. Backup copies are removed within 90 days.

Children

Echo is not intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Third-party music services

Echo lets you search for songs through music services. When you search, we send your query to find matching songs and receive song information (title, artist, artwork) to display. We don't access your listening history or playlists from these services.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or email. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when we last made changes.
